TRANSCRIPT: Hello and welcome to our discussion of income and wealth inequality, this collection of resources was curated with you and your intellectual curiosity and mind. Income and wealth inequality are topics that are very timely in the world today. We see them reflected in many of the situations in the news, but they're also complex and multifaceted topics. And that's going to be reflected in the diversity of resources that were selected for the collection. Many people, when they think about income and wealth inequality, they're going to focus on rich countries versus poor countries or maybe the differences between male and female wages. But it's so much more than that. The articles, videos, podcasts and websites that were chosen for this collection reflect a diversity of perspectives, different racial and ethnic groups, young versus old, disabled persons, even a look at CEO earnings versus average worker wages. This is a collection that addresses the perspectives you expect to see. How does colonization impact individual countries wealth? What are the roots of gender or racially motivated discrepancies? But it's also going to take you to places that maybe you haven't thought about before. Did you know that the fastest growing income inequality in the US today are within the Asian-American community? Have you thought about the impacts that COVID is having on inequality? What are the biggest myths and stereotypes about poverty? All of these issues are going to be addressed. There's going to be an historic component within the resources. One of them is going to take you back to the time of the Black Death and look at income and wealth inequality going forward from there. There's also going to be some controversial discussants. One is going to talk to you about how income and wealth inequality is necessary, that it's fair exchange for differences in skill set training, intelligence. Another is going to talk about how the emergence of income and wealth inequality is inevitable, especially between countries. There's also going to be a debate about us minimum wage and increasing it. This is a topic that I'm really passionate about because it touches everybody. Regardless of your personal wealth status or your geographic location, you have a stake in this income and wealth inequality are part of an interconnected web. Their presence anywhere in the world impacts the rest of the world, sometimes positively, sometimes negatively. And it doesn't just impact economics. It impacts health as well. And other aspects of our life. And you're going to see that reflected in the resources. I hope that you can see the value and the importance of this topic as well. Use the resources we provided to gather perspective, to gather data, but also use them to challenge your current notions of what income and wealth inequality really means.
